Men’s Tennis Beats Norfolk State, 6-1

Lancers win for fifth time in seventh outings overall

NORFOLK, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team won for the fifth time in its last seven matches Tuesday, beating Norfolk State, 6-1, on the road at Nat Warren Tennis Center.

Longwood improved to 6-4 on the season, dropping the Spartans to 5-6 overall.

Longwood took the doubles point to start the day as Alejandro Uribe and Daniel Lopez topped Dominik Simunovic and Boris Lunin, 6-2, on court three and Timéo Puech and Daniel Borisov defeated Marcin Andrzejczak and Marcin Doczynsk on court one.

The Lancers extended the lead to begin doubles when Rufus Plane dispatched Simunovic, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3. Puech then made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Szymon Malecki at No. 1.Borisov clinched the match at No. 2 against Andrzejczak, 7-5, 7-5.

Lopez pushed it to a 5-0 beating Szymon Janzen, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 before Ubire beat Doczynski, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6.

The Lancers lost just one singles match on the day, a three-set contest at No. 5 between Petter Lindquist and Kasper Kulpa. Lindquist took the first set, 7-6 (5) and Kulpa claimed the second 7-6 (4). Kulpa went on for a 10-6 victory in the third-set tiebreaker.

Longwood is back in action Saturday at 2 p.m., at UNC Asheville in Big South play.
