ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Longwood men's tennis team defeated UNC Asheville, 5-2, on the road Saturday.
With the win, Longwood's third consecutive, the Lancers improve to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the Big South while dropping the Bulldogs to 10-5 and 0-1, respectively.
Longwood won both doubles matches to finish, earning the doubles point. Daniel Lopez and Alejandro Uribe defeated Leo Kolbe and Daniel Franco-Key, 6-3, at No. 3 before Timéo Puech and Daniel Borisov topped Griffin Lovern and Harrison Cooper by the same score at No. 1. Rufus Plane and Ninad Raut were up, 5-3, on Jip Mens and Cian Ingles at No. 2 when that match was halted.
Uribe made quick work of Martin Fuks at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2, to push the Longwood lead to 2-0. Borisov followed with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Ingles for 3-0 prior to Cooper topping Petter Lijndquist, 6-4, 7-5, to make it 3-1.
Puech then beat Mens, 7-6 (4), 6-3, at No. 1 to clinch.
The Lancers' other win on the day came from Lopez against Trevor Gray at No. 4 in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-3.
The Lancers return to action Sunday, traveling to No. 4 Wake Forest. First serve is set for 5 p.m., in Winston-Salem, N.C.
