Penguins score five times in sixth to win

FARMVILLE, Va. — Junior Maggie Hiatt belted solo home runs in the second and fifth innings and the Longwood softball team held the lead late, but visiting Youngstown State plated five in the top of the sixth for a 6-4 win to open the Longwood Spring Break Classic on Thursday.

With the Lancers leading 4-1 entering the frame, Mallory Sanders hit and walked the first two YSU hitters, respectively. She was lifted for Cierra Gawryluk, who issued a walk to Bree Kohler to load the bases. Ayla Ray then hit a groundball to the right side to get Tai Turner home and cut into the lead.

Selah Moyer followed with a two-run double to center field before Gabbie Evans came up with a pinch-hit two-run blast to left to give the her team the lead.
