Lancers Drop 5-2 Decision to Wofford in Women’s Tennis

Longwood wins doubles point in loss

FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team fell to visiting Wofford, 5-2, on Wednesday on the New Lancer Courts.

Longwood took an early lead in the match after winning the doubles point. The Lancers won the last two matches in doubles play as Bali Song and Oriana Izarra topped Grace Agster and Ella Suk, 6-3, on court one and Alexandra Magia and Hima Fernando defeated Chloe Elliott and Grace Stout, 6-4, on court three.

Quinn Bernthal and Katie Godfree beat Elizaveta Gnilozubova and Feline van Eijkelenburg, 6-3, at No. 2.

Wofford took five of the six singles matches to win the dual. The Terriers tied it with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Fernando on court two. Angster then outlasted Song, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 to give her team at 2-1 advantage.

Elliott made it 3-1, beating Magia 7-5, 6-0, on court five before van Eijkelenbug got one back with a three-set victory over Godfree at No. 3, winning, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Wofford won the final two matches to seal the dual. Stout beat Nicole Di Bisceglia, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 6 and Suk topped Izarra 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4.

Wofford improved to 4-3 win the win while Longwood dropped to 3-4. 

Longwood is back in action Thursday, host Campbell in a rescheduled match for Monday's postponement. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
