FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team fell to Liberty, 7-0 at the New Lancer Courts on Monday.
Liberty (11-5) claimed the doubles point to open the match, winning on courts two and three, respectively. First, Daniella O'Neill and Milana Tsulygina defeated Feline van Eijkelenburg, 6-1, before Anika Lemus and Candy Wai topped Hima Fernando and Elisaveta Gnilozubova, 7-5.
No. 1 doubles between Liberty's Yoanna Radulova and Maria Turchetto and Longwood's Oriana Izarra and Bali Song went unfinished at 6-6 and the Flames' pair leading, 6-3, in a tiebreaker.
In singles, Lemus topped Genevieve Dickey, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 for a 2-0 lead in the dual. O'Neill then beat Song, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 and Celina Joseph followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Alexandra Magia at No. 5 to clinch the match.
Wai defeated Izarra at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4 while Turchetto beat Fernando, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2. Tsulygina closed the day with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 win against van Eijkelenburg.
Longwood dropped to 6-6 on the season with the loss.
The Lancers return to action Wednesday at Howard. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
