NORFOLK, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team won its second consecutive match on Tuesday, coming from behind to beat Norfolk State, 4-3.
Longwood, which improved to 5-4 with the victory, dropped the doubles point to start the day, but won the first three singles matches to finish. The Spartans (4-6) responded with two match wins to knot the dual at 3-3, setting up a winner-take-all encounter on court six. Freshman Nicole Di Bisceglia prevailed there against Sabina Iurea in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, to win it for the Lancers.
In doubles, Bali Song and Oriana Izarra defeated Angelina Maniawska and Ines Sabadie, 6-1, on court one, but Regina Urbiola and Elena Martinez Prado beat Feline van Eijkelenburg and Hayley Garber, 6-2, on court three.
Norfolk State's Irina Iurea and Yana Klimchuk then claimed the point for the Spartans with a 6-2 win against Alexandra Magia and Hima Fernando at No. 2.
Singles action began with van Eijkelenburg topping Maniawska, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 to tie the dual at 1-1. Song followed with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 win over Urbiola on court one and Izarra made it 3-1, beating Martinez Prado, 6-4, 6-2.
Norfolk State got victories from Yuliya Yurkova in three sets over Fernando at No. 2 and Klimchuk against Magia in straight sets on No. 5 to make it 3-3.
The Lancers return to the courts Thursday at 11 a.m., at Charleston Southern in Big South play.
