CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Longwood graduate guard Malea Brown has been named Co-Big South Player of the Week in women's basketball the league announced on Monday.
Brown averaged 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in a 2-0 week on the road for the Lancers. She scored 17 points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals in an 83-63 win at Charleston Southern on Wednesday. Brown, of Putnam Hall, Fla., followed it with 21 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in a 67-58 win at UNC Asheville on Saturday, posting her fifth career 20-point game against the Bulldogs.
She shot 13-for-28 (46.4 percent) from the field for the week.
The Big South weekly honor, which Brown shares with Asheville's Nia Green, is the first of her career.
Through 16 games — all starts — Brown averages 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Longwood (12-4, 3-0) is back home Wednesday to host Winthrop at the Joan Perry Brock Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m., on ESPN+.
