Lancers Fall to No. 20 Wake Forest

Longwood Defense, Mooldijk Keep Lancers Around in Half, but Deamon Deacons Pull Away in Second Half

Winston-Salem N.C.- The Longwood Lancers (1-3) fought for four quarters against the high-powered, 20th ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-2). Three different Demon Deacons scored in the 7-0 win.

Sophie Mooldijk (1-3) made 15 saves in the cage for the Lancers, a save shy of tying her career record of 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Wake Forrest struck early into the match. Just two minutes in, Mia Schoenbeck found the back of the goal with the help of Mia Montag and Florence Tuthill.

However, a determined Lancer defense kept the score there, holding their ACC foe to only one goal in the opening 30 minutes.

In the third quarter, Wake Forest's Lauren Storey hammered home two unassisted goals to start to provide some separation, and Lena Keller added one as well.

The fourth quarter, the depth of the 20th-ranked team in the nation showed through, as the Deamon Deacon lead grew to close out the match.

UP NEXT:

The Lancers stay on the road with a trip to Davidson on September 12th. First push is set for 5 p.m.
