FARMVILLE, Va. — Ninth-ranked High Point received goals from three different players on its way to a 3-0 victory over the Longwood men's soccer team Sunday.
With the win, the Panthers remained unbeaten, improving to 6-0-3 overall and 2-0-0 in the Big South.
HPU was fortunate to take the early lead in the eighth minute when Joshua Yoder's clearance ricocheted off of the back of Alfred Baafi and over the head of goalkeeper Youssou Ouendeno.
Just 10 minutes later, the Panthers made it 2-0. Brendan Krueger finished a feed to the from Celestin Blondell at the far post after Blondell worked his way around a defender in the box.
Longwood nearly got on the scoreboard in the 28th minute as Yoder's header at the top of six-yard box hit the crossbar.
Despite the Panthers having a 9-3 advantage in shots and the lead through the end of the half, the possession was even.
High Point completed the scoring in the 53rd minute as Chris Niblock drilled the ball along the ground into the far corner of the net from outside the box. Prosper Adagani assisted on the goal.
Ouendeno earned the start in the Longwood goal and made five saves in 53-plus minutes before leaving with an injury. Max Hinke went the rest of the way and stopped six shots.
Josh Caron was credited with a clean sheet without making a save in the High Point nets.
High Point outshot the Lancers, 23-4, on the night. The teams had four corner kicks apiece.
Longwood (2-5-2, 0-2-0) is back in action Friday at 7 p.m. at another nationally ranked side in Gardner-Webb.
