HOW IT HAPPENED:

Defense was the name of the game early. The two teams spent the first quarter using their back lines and structure to limit opportunities going forward and were scoreless after 15 minutes.

Early in the second, Bellarmine struck first. Madison Patton scored her first collegiate goal on a reverse in the 18th minute after a variety of strong moves in the shooting circle.

Longwood's offense found new life though and responded. The Lancers put home the equalizer with less than a minute to go in the half off a strong sequence up the field. Channy Johnson fired a shot on Bellarmine's Kailey Workman that was saved, but White gobbled up the rebound and put it home to make it 1-1.

After halftime, both sides created good chances in the third quarter, but it was Tuncay's midrange shot on a penalty corner that proved to be the separator.

Longwood streamed forward in the fourth quarter, but Bellarmine's back line held under the press.
