NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team opened the 2025 fall season at the CNU Duals on Saturday, winning 15 of its 17 matches played against Hampton and host Christopher Newport.
Against the Pirates to start the day, transfers Rufus Plane and Daniel Lopez earned their first Longwood victories in singles, defeating Kevin Jorquera, 6-3, 6-1 and Kohei Konishi, 6-0, 6-1, respectively. Another transfer, Daniel Borisov, did the same, topping Benedict Badza in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Doubles versus Hampton saw Timéo Puech and Marko Mrdak top Jorquera and Badza, 6-2. Alejandro Uribe and Lopez follow with a 6-1 win over Jude Killikelly and Benjamin Mwanza.
Versus the Captains, another transfer, Ninad Raut, topped Vincent Truong, 6-4, 6-2, in singles. Borisov, Plane and Lopez also won their matches with the latter two earning straight-set victories.
Sophomore Petter Lindquist and Marko Mrdak each won their singles encounters with Gabe Smith (6-3, 6-4) and Nathan Russell (6-1, 6-3).
The Lancers won two doubles matches against CNU. Puech and Mrdak beat Truong and Barrett Foster, 6-4, while Lopez and Uribe topped Nesh Kumaresan and Smith 7-5.
Longwood returns to action next Saturday and Sunday at the UMW Invitational.
