FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood men's soccer team will play eight times at home in 2025 in a 16-match regular-season slate, announced Thursday by head coach Paul Gilbert.
Coming off of a trip to the Big South semifinals in their first season under the direction of Gilbert and staff, the Lancers open the season following a three-match preseason schedule Aug. 21 at home. Longwood is set to host former Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference mate Mount Olive in a 7 p.m., kickoff at the Longwood Athletics Complex.
Longwood hits the road for the first time to face another old friend in Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., on Aug. 25 before welcoming East Tennessee State in what will be the fourth meeting between the two in five years.
September opens with a visit from Wofford on Sept. 5. The Lancers picked off the Terriers, 1-0, on a 57th-minute goal last season for their lone non-conference road win on Oct. 15.
A three-match road swing begins Sept. 9 at Liberty, continuing at Campbell Sept. 16 and at Radford Sept. 20 for the Big South opener.
Longwood welcomes Elon to Farmville Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., marking the first match against the Phoenix since 2009. The Big South regular-season winner from a year ago, High Point comes to Longwood Sept. 28 at 4 p.m., prior to Lancers heading out for a pair on the road. LU is at Gardner-Webb on Oct. 3 and Virginia Tech Oct. 7.
The Lancers host UNC Asheville (Oct. 12) and Winthrop (Oct. 17) and travel to Navy on Oct. 21. Longwood has beaten the Midshipmen each of the last two seasons and six times overall.
Longwood grabbed its first-ever victory over USC Upstate last season in an 8-2 decision, and is in Spartanburg, S.C., on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m., for a rematch. The regular seasons wraps Oct. 31 at home against Presbyterian at 7 p.m.
Longwood finished 2024 at 5-10-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the Big South, earning a conference tournament berth for the first time since 2021.
