FARMVILLE, Va. — Junior
Oriana Izarra and sophomore
Feline van Eijkelenburg of the Longwood women's tennis team have been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District® NCAA Division I Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday.
Izarra, of Valencia, Venezuela, carries a 3.75 GPA in business administration. She earned four singles wins in 2024-25 and went 14-12 in doubles, including 8-7 from the No. 3 position while playing with
Phoebe Mitchell and
Elizaveta Gnilozubova.
Hailing from Haarlem, Netherlands, van Eijkelenburg, has a 3.87 GPA in physics. She earned six singles victories while posting a 14-10 doubles record on the year. Teaming with freshman
Alexandra Magia, van Eijkelenburg was named second-team All-Big South in doubles. The pair was 9-6 together, finishing 7-6 in the dual season, all at No. 2 in the lineup. The pair was 3-2 in conference with wins over Radford, UNC Asheville and Charleston Southern.
She was also the Lancers' representative on the Big South All-Academic team and earned Longwood's Dr. Ray Gaskins Award For Academic Excellence in Athletics, a scholarship of $3,500 for the 2025-26 academic year.
To be eligible for consideration, for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or key contributor to their respective team.
Both players will now advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® ballot. Those honors will be announced at a later date.
Since 1952, the award has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Longwood finished the 2024-25 season at 7-12 overall.
