RICHMOND – Longwood women's tennis fell in a narrow match 4-2 at VCU on Tuesday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond.

The Lancers (7-11) started strong by claiming the doubles point.

The duo of
Phoebe Mitchell and
Oriana Izarra cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Yelizaveta Karlova and Andrea Magallanes for VCU (8-9).

Karina Rizvanova and
Elizaveta Gnilozubova then clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-4) win over T. Andrade Sabando and Mariam Ibrahim.

However, VCU took a 3-1 lead with wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles.

Mitchell won at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-3 over Magallanes to cut the lead to 3-2, but VCU's Lee Malazdra clinched the win at No. 5 singles.

The Lancers head to UNCW for the final match of the regular season on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
