WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Longwood women's tennis team closed its 2024-25 season with a 7-0 loss at UNCW on Saturday.
The Lancers' doubles team of
Karina Rizvanova and
Elizaveta Gnilozubova defeated UNCW's No. 1 pairing of Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak, 6-4. The Seahawks, though, had already clinched the doubles point with victories on courts two and three three, respectively. At No. 2, Stela Joksimovic and Alicia Eberwein beat
Alexandra Magia and
Feline van Eijkelenburg, 6-0, and Lucia Gomez and Anna Parker Shumate got past
Phoebe Mitchell and
Oriana Izarra, 6-3, at No. 3.
In singles action, UNCW won all six matches. First, Arli beat Rizvanova, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1, Gomez topped Izarra, 6-0, 7-5, on court three and Albayrak defeated Mitchell, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4.
Alex Borcich beat Magia, 6-3, 6-1, on court four before Gnilozubova took Katelyn Hubbard to three sets in a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (4) decision.
Joksimovic closed the match with another three-set win over van Eijkelenburg at No. 2, winning, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Longwood's season ends at 7-12 overall, while UNCW improves to 8-6.
