FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's tennis rallied to take down George Washington on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the New Lancer Courts.
The Lancers (7-10) won four singles matches to edge the Revolutionaries 4-3 after losing the doubles point initially.
Oriana Izarra gave Longwood a singles point at No. 3 singles with a calm 6-2, 6-1 win over GW's (6-9) Karen Vrduzco. Elizavetta Gnilozubova also won by withdraw at No. 6 singles to tie the match at 2-2.
Alexandra Magia won a tight first set 6-4 before cruising to a 6-1 win over Alejandra Ramirez at No. 5 singles for a 3-2 lead for the Lancers.
George Washington evened the match at three apiece before Longwood's
Feline van Eijkelenburg rallied to clinch the match in the last two sets at No. 2 singles against Madison Lee. After dropping the first set 6-3, van Eijkelenburg won 6-2, 6-3 over the final two sets to win the match for the Lancers.
"I am so proud of these women," said Longwood Director of Tennis
Charlotte Clarke. "They truly played for their seniors today and had a huge third set clinch by a sophomore in Feline. I'm excited to see how they close out the season."
The Lancers go on the road for their final two matches of the regular season, beginning with a trip to VCU on Tuesday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
