LaRue Leads Men's Golf Awards Haul

Senior Named Big South Men's Golfer of the Year, Jordan, Fleming, Swidzinski and Fillman Earn All-Big South Honors

FARMVILLE, Va. – For a second straight season, Justin LaRue was named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Year as the top golfer in the Big South.
 
LaRue, a senior, led a huge postseason awards haul for the Lancers, as he and Scott Jordan earned a spot on the All-Big South First Team. Nick Fleming and Hunter Swidzinski were named All-Big South Honorable Mentions while Swidzinski earned an All-Big South Freshman Team spot. In addition, Kevin Fillman was named the Big South Coach of the Year, and Jordan earned an All-Academic Team nod.
 
The Lancers won three tournaments during the year, winning The Savannah Intercollegiate, the Surf Club Invitational and the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.
 
LaRue led the Big South in scoring average and top 10 finishes. He averaged a 69.54 and was the only player in the Big South to post an average score below 70 on the year. In 26 rounds, he had 20 rounds below par. He was the Big South Golfer of the Week five times this season.
 
He carded seven top 10 finishes and either won or tied for first four times and added a second place finish. He had three of Longwood's four lowest 18-hole rounds, and he holds the lowest and second-lowest 54-hole scores in team history.
 
The senior won the Phoenix Invitational and the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, and he tied for first in the Savannah Intercollegiate as well as the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. He also finished second at the Rutherford Intercollegiate.
 
Jordan, meanwhile, earned first team honors on the strength of a 71.92 scoring average that was second in the Big South. He added four top 10 finishes, good for second in the Big South, and carded a pair of top five efforts. He had his best finish when he tied for second at the Surf Club Invitational to help Longwood win the event. He was the Big South Golfer of the Week once when he tied for third at the Joe Feaganes Invitational in September.
 
Fleming, meanwhile, was a consistent performer throughout the season for Longwood. He had a pair of top 10 finishes and one top five effort while averaging a 72.50. He ranked sixth in the Big South in scoring average on the season. He had his best finish at Dragon Match Play, when he tied for fourth, and he also finished tied for 10th at the Joe Feaganes Invitational.
 
Swidzinski ranked eighth in the Big South in scoring going into the tournament, and the freshman had a pair of top 10 finishes with one top five effort in an impressive debut campaign. He tied for fourth at The Savannah Intercollegiate to help Longwood win the event, and he followed it up by tying for 10th at the Surf Club Invitational.
 
Fillman was named the Big South Coach of the Year for a second time in three seasons. The Lancers, in addition to winning a conference-best three tournaments, finished as the top overall seed and were ranked 150th in the nation heading into the Big South Championships. Longwood led the Big South in scoring average by nearly nine strokes as a team, and the Lancers had four players in the top 10 in scoring average and five in the top 15.
 
The Lancers are finished with the season and will return to action for the 2025-26 competition year in the fall.
