Lancers Fall 18-0 to Streaking Patriots

TYSONS, Va. –Longwood baseball ran into one of the hottest offenses in the country on Saturday against George Mason.

The Patriots (10-4), who set an NCAA record with 23 runs in an inning in a midweek game earlier this week, punched out 18 runs on 14 hits to take out the Lancers (4-10) in seven innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

George Mason, which won its eighth straight game, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single from Jake Butler, and the Patriots added three more in the second. The dam broke in the third, and Longwood never could recover.

Meanwhile, Patriot starter Connor O'Hara (1-1) got the complete-game, seven-inning win while limiting what had been a scorching Lancer offense to one hit. He struck out six.

Alex Strickland (0-1) took the loss for Longwood after going three innings.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"George Mason came out with an offensive attack that really put our defense on their heels," said Longwood Head Coach Ray Noe. "Their arm pounded the strike zone and was on attack mode from pitch one. This is definitely an outcome that we learn from but also don't dwell on for very long. We are excited to get after it again tomorrow against Georgetown."

UP NEXT:

Longwood faces off against Georgetown on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the DMV Classic, and first pitch is set for noon. The game will air on MuscoVision.
