FARMVILLE, Va. –Gardner-Webb used two big innings to take down Longwood 13-9 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (14-15, 4-5 Big South) plated 10 runs combined in the third and fifth innings to outslug Longwood (8-20, 3-3 Big South) and complete the sweep.

Mikey Urbaniak led the Longwood offense by tying a career best with four base hits. However, GWU had nine different players record a base hit, and seven different players drew a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Gardner-Webb took advantage of walks in the first to take a 2-0 lead, but
Myles Webb roped an RBI triple down the line to get Longwood on the board, and a delayed double steal allowed Webb to score and tie the game.

However, GWU plated four in the third, with Merik Carter capping the rally with a two-run single.
Â
Jae'dan Carter hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3 in the home half of the frame for the Lancers.

GWU's
Tanner Thomas hit a three-run double to open the scoring in the fifth, and three more doubles extended the lead to 12-3.

Mikey Urbaniak tripled in a run in response, and he came home to score one batter later on a grounder by Webb.
Â
The Lancers rallied in the seventh to trim the lead to 12-9.
Carter Newman opened the scoring with a two-run single up the gut, and
Bentley Yeatts snuck an RBI single down the line. Tre Keels capped the scoring with a sac fly.

The Lancers loaded the bases in the eighth with two outs, but a fielder's choice ended the threat.

Jaden Stockton (2-0) earned the win for Gardner-Webb after coming on in relief in the fifth inning. He struck out five against two runs on a hit and two walks. Devin Pressley picked up a four out save with one strikeout for his first save of the season.

Ried Dittner (1-2) took the loss for Longwood. He gave up six runs on two hits and eight walks while striking out four.

Longwood returns to the road for four straight games. The Lancers head to VMI for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m., and then the team heads to Presbyterian next weekend for a three-game series.
