FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team claimed the doubles point, before Charleston Southern swept singles action for a 6-1 victory in Big South play at the New Lancer Courts on Saturday.
Alexandra Magia and Feline van Eijkelenbug began the day with a 6-4 win on court two against Marina Skegro and Kassandra Di Staulo. Emma Moore and Brenda Yoris then beat the No,. 2 pair of
Oriana Izarra, 6-4. The Lancers won the point as
Karina Rizvanova and
Elizaveta Gnilozubova topped Noa Boyd and Amilia Jusufbegovic, 6-4, at No. 1.
From there, the Buccaneers (12-4, 2-0 Big South) took over. Moore beat Rizvanova, 6-0, 6-0 on court one, Yoris beat Magia, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (2) on No. 5, Boyd beat Izarra, 6-2, 6-3, on No. 3 and Jusufbegovic clinched against
Phoebe Mitchell, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 on court four.
Di Staulo then beat Gnilozubova, 6-3, 6-2 on No. 6. Skegro closed the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over van Eijkelenburg.
Longwood dropped to 6-10 overall and 0-5 in the league with the loss.
The Lancers are back on the courts next Saturday against George Washington at 1 p.m., in Farmville.
