FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team won singles matches on courts five and six in straight sets for a 2-1 lead over Presbyterian in Big South action on Friday before the Blue Hose rallied to win the final four of the day to take the dual, 5-2.
After Presbyterian (5-14, 1-1 Big South) won the doubles point, reigning Big South Freshman of the Week
Alexandra Magia defeated Elle Sceney, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 5 to tie the match.
Elizaveta Gnilozubova followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Mary Ellen Longmire at No. 6.
Madison Dennett beat
Phoebe Mitchell, 6-4, 6-3 on court four to make it 2-2. Claudia Sanchez then topped
Feline van Eijkelenburg, 7-5, 6-3, for the lead.
McKenzie Davis clinched the match for PC with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory over
Karina Rizvanova.
Valentina De Sousa closed the dual with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over
Oriana Izarra.
Rizvanova and Gnilozubova beat Sanchez and De Souza, 6-3, at No. 1 to knot doubles, 1-1, after Dennett and Sceney beat Mitchell and Izarra, 6-3, on three. Presbyterian earned the point with a 6-3 win by Davis and Longmire at No. 2 against Magia and van Eijkelenburg.
The loss drops the Lancers to 6-9 overall and 0-4 in the league.
Longwood is back in action Saturday at 10 a.m., hosting Charleston Southern.
