BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — The Longwood women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Gardner-Webb on Friday to begin Big South Conference play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took the doubles point, winning on courts one and two. Emilia Roslund and Arili Boshoff defeated 
Elizaveta Gnilozubova and 
Karina Rizvanova, 6-2 at No. 1 before Milica Prokic and Natalie Crawford topped 
Feline van Eijkelenburg and 
Alexandra Magia, 7-5.
In singles, Alizee Poulin defeated Rizvanova, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 to make it 2-0. Roslund followed with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over van Eijkelenburg from the top spot prior to Greta Murzsa clinching, 6-3, 7-5 on court six against Magia.
Sophomore 
Phoebe Mitchell got Longwood (5-5, 0-1 Big South) on the board with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-3 win over Crawford from the No. 4 spot.
Boshoff then outlasted Gnilozubova, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2) at No. 5 and Prokic beat 
Oriana Izarra, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 to close the match.
Gardner-Webb improved to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the league with the victory.
The Lancers are back in action Sunday at Davidson. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
