BUIES CREEK, N.C. — The Longwood women's tennis team slipped past Campbell, 4-3, at the Nesbit Tennis Center on Saturday.
The victory is the first against the Camels since at least 2007.
"These women are fighters. They gave everything they had as a team to get the win today," said Longwood Director of Tennis Charlotte Clarke. "I'm proud of these women and today they showed what they're capable of."
Longwood (2-3) took the early lead by winning the doubles point.
Oriana Izarra opened the day topping Veronika Prospalova and Sandra Mari Marti, 6-2, on court three before Feline van Eijkelenberg defeated Jessica Maras and Deren Ozel, 7-5, on No. 2.
After Ofer Kivity got by
Karina Rizvanova at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, Elizabeth Gnilozubova dispatched Mari Marti, 6-3, 6-1 to regain the lead.
Alexandria Magia then won on court six over Ilouna Aneca, 6-3, 6-4 to make it 3-1 prior to Sonia Pieczynska topping van Eijkelenberg on No. 1, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Mitchell outlasted Deren Ozel, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 to win the match for Longwood.
The Lancers are back in action at UNCG next Saturday at 1 p.m.
