Women’s Tennis Slips Past UNCG, 4-3

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Longwood women's tennis team won its second straight match and for the third time in the last four outings Saturday, beating UNCG, 4-3, on the road.
The Lancers, who evened their overall record to 3-3 with the victory, earned a 3-0 lead in the dual and held on for the win.

Alexandra Magia clinched the match for Longwood, outlasting the Spartans' Luna Urso in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, on court No. 6.
The Lancers jumped out to an early lead, winning the doubles point.
Oriana Izarra and
Phoebe Mitchell defeated Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson at No. 3 while
Elizaveta Gnilozubova and
Karina Rizvanova dispatched Alexandra Dodashev and Olivia Gallagher, 6-3, from No. 1.
Phoebe Mitchell then beat Sydney Bly, 7-5, 6-3, to open singles action on court four. Izarra made it 3-0 for the Lancers at No. 3, getting past Raegan Mitchell, 7-5, 6-4.
From there, UNCG (1-7) won on courts two, one and five — all in three sets — to knot the dual at 3-3 before Magia came all the way back in her encounter with Urso for the win.
Longwood returns to the court Friday, Feb. 28 in its home opener against Hampton. First serve in Farmville is set for 2 p.m.
