WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to William & Mary at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on Wednesday.
The Tribe (3-0) won all eight completed matches without losing a set.
William & Mary took the doubles point by winning on courts three and one, respectively. Emma Fernald and Mira Kernagis defeated
Elizaveta Gnilozubova and
Oriana Izarra, 6-2, first before Hedda Gurholt and Ine Stange beat
Phoebe Mitchell and
Karina Rizvanova, 6-3.
Alessandra Anghel got past Rizvanova, 6-0, 6-2, in No. 2 singles action prior to Emma Pell defeating
Alexandra Magia, 6-0, 6-1, on No. 6.
Francesca Davis then beat Gnilozubova on court five, 6-3, 6-1, to make it 4-0. Gurholt topped
Feline van Eijkelenburg, 6-2, 6-2, on No. 1 while Sia Chaudry won 6-3, 6-3, against Izarra on court three.
Stange closed the match with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 victory over Mitchell at No. 4.
The Lancers fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss.
Longwood is back on the court Saturday at Campbell. First serve in Buies Creek, N.C., is set for 11 a.m.
