THE OPENING TIP
•    Longwood wraps up non-conference play with a home game against Averett on Sunday afternoon.
•    With a win, Longwood would post a winning record in non-conference play for a fifth straight season, dating back to the 2021-22 season.
•    Averett was selected ninth in the ODAC Preseason Poll, and Longwood was selected third in the Big South Preseason Poll.
•    Elijah Tucker was a Preseason All-Big South First Team selection
•    Longwood is 4-2 at the Joan Perry Brock Center this season.
•    The beginning of Big South play is Wednesday, December 31 when Longwood hosts Winthrop. That kicks off a stretch when the Lancers will play three of the top five teams in the Big South Preseason Poll in their first three conference games.
•    Johan Nziemi leads the Big South in made free throws with 61, and the Lancers have three players in the top 12.
 
LAST TIME OUT
•    Rebounding and excellent guard play keyed Longwood past North Carolina Central prior to Christmas.
•    Longwood ripped down 16 offensive rebounds, with the 16th serving as the game winner when Elijah Tucker tipped home a buzzer-beater for a 74-72 win.
•    Tucker was a beast on the boards, grabbing six offensive rebounds in the game.
•    Meanwhile, four other Lancers scored in double figures. Redd Thompson, Jr. and Jacoi Hutchinson tallied 17 points apiece, and Emanuel Richards posted 15 points. Johan Nziemi added 14 points while going 8-10 at the foul line.
•    That was enough to help Longwood edge an N.C. Central side that received a game-high 22 points from Gage Lattimore and a double-double from Khouri Carvey, who had 17 points and 11 rebounds.
