Virginia Tech Tops Lancers, 3-0

Hokies receive hat trick from Traustason

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Dagur Traustason scored a hat trick and Alex Perez added two assists as Virginia Tech shut out the Longwood men's soccer team, 3-0, at Thompson Field on Tuesday.

Traustason picked up the Hokies first hat trick since 2019, scoring twice in the first half and once in the second. Perez assisted on Traustason's 13th- and 72nd-minute tallies. Ian Marcano's far-post service on a Virginia Tech corner kick in the 30th minute led to a 2-0 lead. Amir Ariely flicked on the Marcano ball to Traustason, who pounded it home.

Virginia Tech, which improved to 4-2-4 win the win, opened the scoring as Longwood goalkeeper YoussouOuendeno punched away a Yanis Belatrache shot, but not clear of danger. The Hokies recovered possession as Perez lofted the ball across the six-yard box onto Traustason's head, who made no mistake, high into the top-left corner.

Traustason completed the hat trick with a deft finish low, inside the far post from the right side of the penalty area after receiving a slip pass from Perez.

Aaron Asamoah had the best offensive opportunity for Longwood on the day, but his blast from just outside the box was grabbed by Virginia Tech goalkeeper Sam Joseph. Joaquin Sonez also had a bid in the 62nd minute that Joseph turned aside.

Other shots came from Syrus Conolly — who spent the spring 2025 semester as a part of the Virginia Tech squad  — Brando Bedolla and Mateo Nance.

Joseph earned his fifth clean sheet of the season in the win.

Ouendeno was active, making seven saves for Longwood, which fell to 2-7-2 overall and 4-9-2 all-time against the in-state foe.

The Lancers jump back into Big South action Sunday against UNC Asheville at Longwood Athletics Complex. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., on ESPN+.
