SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Longwood women's soccer fell to USC Upstate on the road on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans (7-5-1, 4-1 Big South) scored twice late in the second half, taking the match 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lancers (6-6-2, 3-2 Big South) created chances early on, taking five of the first six shots in the match, but USC Upstate evaded any damage despite
Meghan Piazza hitting the woodwork in the 13
th minute.
Six different Lancers had a shot in the opening 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Longwood defense limited the opportunities for the Spartans, allowing only five shots, only one of which was on target and was saved by
Sara Curtis.
After the half, USC Upstate found its rhythm, striking first in the 70
th minute by Paige Armstrong with an assist for Dara Russo, and again in the 79
th minute from Savannah Noll.
Karleigh Minson made a solid effort in the 80
th minute with a low center shot, but it was picked up by goalkeeper Marley Gerber.
WHAT THEY SAID
"Goals change games, especially when you can get that first one", said Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "We had our chances and smashed the crossbar twice, but we couldn't get that breakthrough. Credit to them for grinding out a result in what was a really tight, competitive, back-and-forth game. We're close, but just not quite there yet."
