FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team won its second dual match of the weekend Sunday, topping Barton, 5-2, on the Lancer Courts.
Longwood (8-7) earned the victory in come-from-behind fashion after dropping the doubles point. The Lancers reeled five match wins in singles action to claim the victory and climb back over .500 on the season.
"Today's match was more of a mental battle for our guys more than anything," said Longwood head coach Carlos Lora. "Barton is certainly a tough team to play against at any time. Now we are certainly looking forward to build into what we are capable of doing at the conference tournament."
Petar Belosevic defeated Hannes Tylehed, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 to knot the match at 1-1. Timéo Puech then beat Felipe Mioch, 6-2, 6-2 on court one for the lead. Alejandro Uribe topped Aditya Chauhan on court three, 6-3, 6-1.
Luis Reis defeated Deni Furtado Brlenic, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. Lorenzo Meschini then outlasted Guillem Busquets Brau at No. 4, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (1).
Johan Holgersson beat Seva Rubin, 6-4, 6-4 on court six to close the match.
Barton took the doubles point as Wilhelm Karlsson and Holgersson opened with a 6-0 defeat of Puech and Reis at No. 1. Brad Beck and Mioch topped Rusin and Meschini, 6-2 at No. 3. The Bulldogs swept the point with a 6-3 decision from Busquets Brau and Tylehed against Uribe and Belosevic.
Barton fell to 6-7 with the loss.
With the regular season complete, the Lancers now prepare for the Big South semifinals against top-seeded Gardner-Webb Saturday, April 20 at Marion Diehl Tennis Center in Charlotte, N.C. first serve is set for 9 a.m.
