CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Longwood men's tennis team fell, 4-0, to top-seededed Gardner-Webb in the semifinals of the 2024 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship at Marion Diehl Tennis Center.
Gardner-Webb improved to 20-3 overall and advances to face second-seeded UNC Asheville for the title Sunday at 11 a.m. The fourth-seeded Lancers were making an appearance in the league tournament for the first time since the 2019 season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs received victories from Numa Lemieux-Monette and Jurie Terblanche over
Petar Belosevic and
Alejandro Uribe, 7-5, and Alex Lepine and John Spring against
Luis Reis and
Seva Rusin, 6-4, on courts two and three, respectively. The Lancers opened double play with a victory as Timéo Puech and
Alejandro Hernandez defeated Eduardo Dias and Chrisjan Van Wyk, 6-2.
Gardner-Webb won three singles matches played to completion to secure the sweep and move on.
Dias beat Hernandez, 6-1, 6-1, on court one, Lemieux-Monett topped Belosevic on court three by the same tally and Kim Niethammer defeated Uribe, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
The Lancers' season ends at 8-8 overall.
