FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team earned a 6-1 non-conference victory over North Carolina A&T at the Lancer Courts Saturday.
Longwood (7-7) claimed three three-set matches in singles action and earned the doubles point, winning on courts one and three, respectively.
"Today's win for the guys was a strong win against a very tough and gritty North Carolina A&T team," said Longwood head coach Carlos Lora. "The final scoreboard of 6-1 is not as reflective of how tough and gritty this win was for our guys as well. Excited to keep building with this team against a tough Barton team tomorrow."
Timéo Puech and Luis Reis began the day with a 6-1 win over Esteban Lopez and Lucas Coupo-Moison. After the Aggies' Said Akbarov and Ian Pedersen defeated Petar Belsevic and Alejandro Uribe, 6-3, at No. 2, the Lancers received a 6-3 victory from Seva Rusin and Lorenzo Meschini over Kaua Santos and Matthieu Dussaubat to win doubles.
Dussaubat then beat Rusin on court six, 6-4, 7-5, to tie the match, before Longwood ran off five consecutive singles wins to take the dual.
Reis beat Santos at No. 5, 6-0, 7-5, to give Longwood a 2-1 advantage and Puech defeated Lopez, 6-4, 7-5, on No. 1.
At No. 3, Uribe topped Akbarov, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, and Belosevic outlasted Coupo-Moison, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Meschini closed the day by dropping the first set to Peterson, 2-6, before winning the next two, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4.
North Carolina A&T fell to 12-3 overall in the loss.
The Lancers host Division II Barton Sunday. The team will honor its seniors beginning at 11:30 a.m., prior to the 1 p.m., match.
