FARMVILLE, Va. — Arianna Rodi hit two home runs to lead 25th-ranked Charlotte to a 7-1 non-conference victory over the Longwood softball team at Lancer Field on Tuesday.
Rodi connected for two-run shots in the in the third and fifth innings, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBIs, helping the 49ers (21-13) to their second midweek win over Longwood (11-21) in as many seasons.
"We are built for struggle. We will either struggle with the consequences of mediocrity or we will struggle with the tasks that greatness requires," said Longwood head coach
Dr. Megan Brown. "But make no mistake, we will struggle. Proud of our team for showing up everyday to do what is required to pursue greatness."

Maggie Chapin and Charlotte's Lena Elkins traded zeros for two and a half innings before Rodi's first blast of the game to center field with two out put her team on top.
Olivia Williams dropped a two-out RBI single down the right-field line, extending the lead in the top of the fourth prior to Longwood getting on the scoreboard in its half of the inning.

Peyton Coleman to third with a groundball.
Avery Miller then reached on a fielding error at shortstop, allowing Coleman to scamper home, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Rodi's second homer of the day pushed the Charlotte lead to 5-1 when she took a 2-1 pitch from Chapin over the wall in left with one out in the fifth.
Charlotte added single runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively, for the final margin.
Bowling (3-1) earned the win in the circle in relief of Elkins, scattering four hits and the unearned run in two innings. Chapin (11-10) went the route for Longwood, allowing six earned runs and five walks while striking out four.
Despite the loss, the Lancers outhit Charlotte, who is ranked in this week's d1softball.com poll, 10-6.
Lauren Fox and
Lauren Taylor combined to hit 5-for-8 at the top of the lineup with Fox collecting three singles.
Longwood jumps back into Big South Conference play Friday and Saturday at USC Upstate. The series opens with a 4 p.m., doubleheader on ESPN+ and closes with another 4 p.m., first pitch broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
