ELON, N.C. - Longwood baseball jumped out to an early lead, but late runs powered Elon past the Lancers (7-5) 11-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
Hayden Harris and
James Nelson paced the Longwood offense with three hits apiece, but Elon's Ryan Sprock hit a grand slam that flipped the game on its head in the sixth inning. Ultimately, Elon (5-8) rode the momentum to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The scoring starter early for the Lancers where they scratched a run in the top half of the first inning thanks to
Drew Camp's RBI groundout.
In the second inning, Longwood took advantage of free bases to add three more runs for a 4-0 lead. It ultimately led to an Elon pitching change.
Owen Simmons was able to hold the Phoenix to only two runs in his outing which allowed the Lancers to lead 5-2 after four.
In the top half of the fifth Longwood would add a run on a single courtesy of
James Nelson, but Elon would respond with a run of their own to bring the score to 6-3 after five.
It set the stage for Elon to take the lead on Sprock's grand slam in the sixth, and the Phoenix added four more in the seventh to get some separation.
Wyatt Bunch (0-1) took the loss for Longwood, and Christo Garrelts (1-0) earned the win for Elon.

Hayden Harris extended his hitting streak to 11 games after going 3-3 tonight.
