KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Right-hander Karlyn Pickens limited the Longwood softball team to one hit and the No. 8/9 Lady Vols hit home runs in four consecutive innings for a 7-0 victory at Sherri Lee Parker Stadium on Monday.

Pickens allowed four baserunners and struck out 10 using 89 pitches to improve to 7-2 on the season. Shortstop Lauren Taylor broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single up the middle in the fifth inning.

Tennessee (13-4) hit solo homers in the third, fourth and sixth innings off the bats of Zaida Puni, Rylie West and Kiki Milloy, respectively, against Maggie Chapin (6-5), who went the entire way in the circle. Laura Mealer added a two-run blast to right field in the fifth. 

Longwood (6-11) put the first two runners on in the top of the seventh as Pickens issued a four-pitch walk to Sophia Knock and then hit Maggie Hiatt. After a fielder's choice, however, Pickens induced Korynna Anderson popup to first and Taylor was doubled off to end the game.

Knock reached base in all three of her plate appearances, drawing two walks and getting plunked once.

Chapin allowed nine hits, struck out five and walked six in 148 pitches. Four different Tennessee players collected two hits apiece and three drove in multiple runs in the win.

The Lancers return home Tuesday to opener their home slate with a 2 p.m., game against Virginia at Lancer Field. Longwood holds a 21-16 advantage in the all-time series against the Cavaliers. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
