CLINTON, S.C. — Junior Luis Reis outlasted Presbyterian's Marco Foglieni in three sets, but the Blue Hose defeated the Longwood men's tennis team, 6-1, in Big South Conference action at the Templeton Tennis Courts Sunday.
Reis beat Foglieni, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7), on court six to put the Lancers on the scoreboard at 5-1.
"We started off the match well, competing well in doubles and singles," said Longwood head coach Carlos Lora. "As the match went on, though, we lost our focus and Presbyterian was able to capitalize on this. Now we can go back to work this week before our upcoming matches the following week."
Presbyterian took the doubles point as Foglieni and David Mamalat topped Alejandro Uribe and Petar Belosevic, 6-1, at No. 2 and Javier Matos and Denim Yadav defeated Timéo Puech and Alejandro Hernandez, 6-4 on court one.
Evgenios Vasilakis beat Lorenzo Meschini, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5 to begin singles play before Pedro Cardoso defeated Belosevic, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3.
Yadav bested Uribe on four, 7-5, 6-1, and Matos beat Hernandez, 7-6 (4), 6-1, on court one. Mamalat finished the day with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Puech at No. 2 singles.
The Blue Hose improved to 6-7 on the season and 1-0 in the league with the win, while the Lancers dropped to 5-5 and 1-2.
Longwood next hosts Gardner-Webb on Friday at 2 p.m.Â
