ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Alejandro Uribe and Lorenzo Meschini each won singles matches for the Longwood men's tennis team, but UNC Asheville earned a 5-2 victory in Big South Conference action Saturday.
UNC Asheville, which improved to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in the league with the win, claimed the doubles point as Cian Ingles and Bruno Serra defeated Uribe and Peter Belosevic, 6-2, on court two and Sam Nicholson and Freddy Murray beat Luis Reis and Seva Rusin, 6-3 at No. 3.
Nicholson defeated Timéo Puech at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2 for a 2-0 dual-match lead prior to Meschini dispatching Serra in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, on court five. The Lancers tied the match, 2-2, with Uribe's three-set win at No. 4, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
The Bulldogs, however, were victorious in the final three matches of the day to win the dual. Jon Brann Reid beat Belosevic, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 3, Murray beat Alejandro Hernandez, 7-6, 6-2, on court one and Ingles defeated Reis, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 on court six.
The Lancers fall to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the Big South with the loss.
Longwood is back in action Sunday at Presbyterian at 2 p.m.
