Passa Scores Four, Hill Adds Three Assists, but Taylor Keys Monarchs with Five Goals

FARMVILLE, Va. – Sophia Passa powered home four goals, and Holly Hill continued her strong start to her debut campaign at Longwood with three assists.

Unfortunately for Longwood, Sydney Taylor scored five goals and Lilly Siskind added four for Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon in a soggy contest at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

Taylor accounted for nearly half of ODU's offensive output as the Monarchs (2-3) took down Longwood (0-3) 11-7.

TOP LWU PERFORMERS:

Sophia Passa: 4 G, 1 GB, 5 DC, 1CT
Holly Hill: 1 G, 3 A, 1CT
Cybella Smith: 8 SV, 4 GA, .667 SV%

HOW IT HAPPENED:

With rain off and on throughout the match, the two defenses kept the game low scoring while the offenses turned it over 40 times between them.

Longwood struck first behind Sophia Passa's goal less than two minutes in, but neither side would score for eight minutes until Claire Libby gave Longwood a 2-0 lead with five minutes to play in the first quarter.

Old Dominion responded though with seven straight goals in a nearly 15-minute span. Sydney Taylor scored three times, and Lilly Siskind added two more as the Monarchs turned a two-goal deficit into a five goal lead with three minutes to go in the first half.

Passa ended the run for Longwood with 37 seconds left in the half, and she added one less than two minutes into the second half to help the Lancers trim the lead to three.

Riley McDonald added her lone goal a few minutes later to cut the lead to two, and the two teams traded goals through the remainder of the third quarter.

Passa trimmed the game to 9-7 as the third quarter was expiring, but that was as close as the Lancers would get.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Longwood lacrosse just got another game better and stronger as a team," said Longwood Head Coach Kylar Ferguson. "The team made some great plays going into halftime and followed it up with key adjustments throughout the second half. No quit, all guts. Go Wood. We are looking forward to our trip to Ohio next week."

NOTABLES:

It was Passa's second straight multi-goal game.

Her four goals were a season high and two shy of her career high.

Hill has now had a goal in three straight games.

Her three assists were her first three collegiate assists.

Cybella Smith came on in the second half and made eight saves, a career best for the freshman, and she had a save percentage of .667.

UP NEXT:

The Lancers play four of their next five on the road. They travel to Kent State on Thursday, March 7 and Youngstown State on Saturday, March 9. The team then returns to Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field on Wednesday, March 13 to host George Mason at 4 p.m.
