RICHMOND, Va. - On Tuesday afternoon,
Noah Campanelli and
Hayden Harris each had three hits apiece, and
Matt Stevenson added three RBI for Longwood baseball at The Diamond against VCU. Unfortunately, the Lancers (3-1) saw a late rally come up short as VCU (2-2) plated nine runs in the last three innings to win 16-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, where
Ryan Perez and
Willie Havens reached base safely, before being driven in by
Matt Stevenson on a two-run single.
Noah Campanelli followed that at bat up with a double off the left center wall. The Lancers would stall from there, taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first.
VCU answered with a trio of runs to take the lead, forcing Longwood to play catchup the rest of the night.
Down 7-2 after four innings, Campanelli helped Longwood pull back within one. He had RBI base knocks in both the fourth and fifth innings were part of a Lancer rally that cut the lead to 7-6.
On the mound,
Dallas Hairfield pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief to give Longwood a chance. The Lancers however, were not able to take advantage of the opportunity leaving the tying run on third in the top half of the 6th.
VCU answered when Ethan Iannuzzi knocked an RBI single in the sixth to start a three-run rally for the Rams, who took a 10-6 lead.
Longwood ran out of gas, and VCU added six runs in the last two innings to preserve the win.

Noah Campanelli slashed 2 doubles. He now has a .533 batting average with 2 doubles and a triple on the season.
Hayden Harris was perfect at the plate. He is now 6-11 in his last three games.
Longwood has combined for 9 or more hits in every game this season.
