HAMPTON, Va. – The Longwood men's tennis team picked up its second consecutive victory with a 4-3 decision over Hampton at Neilson-Screen Stadium on Wednesday.
After
Alejandro Hernandez and Timeo Puech dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Daniel Flynn and Emiliano Jorquera, 6-0, the Lancers rallied. Longwood won at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point.
Petar Belosevic and
Alejandro Uribe beat Donte Armbrister and Aryan Arora, 6-3, on court two and
Luis Reis and
Seva Rusin topped Shine Tokas and Benjamin Mwanza, 6-2.
Flynn knotted the match with a No. 1 singles win over Hernandez retired a 4-2 in the third set after winning the first 6-2 and dropping the second, 6-1. Armbrister defeated Belosevic, 7-5, 6-4, prior to Uribe dispatching Tokas, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles for a 2-2 tie.
Arora beat
Lorenzo Meschini, 6-2, 6-3 on court five for a 3-2 lead. The Lancers rallied again, though, winning the final two matches to seal the victory. Puech beat Jorquera at No. 2, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (5), and Reis beat Mwanza, 6-0, 6-0.
Longwood improves to 2-2 on the season win the win while Hampton falls to 1-4 in the loss.
Longwood is back in action Thursday, Feb. 22 against Chowan at home on the New Lancer Courts at 3:30 p.m.
