Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lancers Blitz Webber International, 105-38

Longwood shoots better than 52 percent in first half; tops 100 for second time in 2024-25

BABSON PARK, Fla. — The Longwood women's basketball team shot 52.1 percent from the floor in the first half on its way to a 105-38 win over Webber International at the Sabbagh Athletic Center on Wednesday.

The Lancers went 24-for-46 from the field in the opening 20 minutes and topped the 100-point plateau for a second time this season to earn their fourth win in five games. With the win, Longwood (8-5) matched its best 13-game start since 2003-04.

"I like the way we started the game. I thought we came out really strong with an attention to detail," Longwood head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery said. "I thought our focus was where it needed to be. The start of the third quarter, I was disappointed that we didn't pick up where we left off. I thought there definitely was a drop off in play, but I'm glad that we settled and figured out how to compete again to get the job done."

Freshman Olivia Bowes scored a game- and career-high 20 points, including 14 in the third quarter. Mariah Wilson added 16 points and a career-best eight steals on the day, while Amor Harris and Lili Booker scored 12 points each. Longwood swiped 25 steals, a season high.

Bowes, Wilson and sophomore Otaifo Esenabhalu secured a game-best-tying nine rebounds apiece for Longwood, which overwhelmed Webber on the boards, 54-25, with a 21-6 edge on the offensive glass.

The Lancers forced 34 Webber International turnovers, scoring 48 points off of the miscues. Longwood also scored 56 points in the paint, compared to 10 for the Warriors.

All 11 Lancers to play in the game scored, including a career-high seven points in 13 minutes for sophomore Nalani Simmons. Freshman walk-on Montgomery Bedford also scored her first career bucket to make it 53-13 with just over a minute to play in the first half.

"That was nice," Lang-Montgomery said of everyone chipping in. "That was something that we had talked about before the game that we wanted to more the ball and give everybody an opportunity to get on the scoreboard in addition to working on our execution in the half court, and so I thought we did a good job of looking and finding the open person.

"We said we wanted to not just take a good shot, but find the best shot," she said of her team, which dished 20 assists for the game, as well.

The Lancers led 32-7 after the first quarter, 57-16 at halftime and 85-31 after three periods. Longwood kept Webber (3-5) off the scoreboard for the first 7:02 of the second quarter as the Warriors were 0-for-7 with eight turnovers in that stretch.

Webber finished 14-for-55 from the field (25.5 percent) and was led by Jaiden Ross with 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Longwood now breaks for the holidays before closing the non-conference portion of its schedule at UNCW on Dec. 29 at 1 p.m.
