HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood outshot Presbyterian (6-4-4, 1-1-3 Big South) 12-7 on the day, and both Sara Curtis for Longwood and Kelly Hall for Presbyterian were exceptional in goal.

The opening half featured back and forth action, with each goalkeeper making three saves apiece.

Presbyterian had an early chance on a pair of corner kicks, and Sloan Spees forced a sprawling save from Curtis with a shot from 25 yards. However, Curtis batted the chance aside while picking up her third straight shutout. She finished with five saves.

The back line handled the rest, with the foursome of Sydney Robertson, Amanda Arnone, Berni Wayland and Emma Jones sweeping aside almost every Presbyterian counter from that point on.

Longwood's offense created a few good looks of its own, especially after halftime.

The Lancers dominated the final 45 minutes and created multiple chances in and around the goal. The team found both Karleigh Minson and Peyton Curney on through balls, but Hall was equal to the task each time.

In addition, Longwood had six corners in the second half, including a flurry in the final 10 minutes, but again, Hall was able to turn them aside.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Defensively we earned our third shutout, and offensively we controlled a lot of the game, creating some good looks at goal," said Longwood Head Coach Todd Dyer. "However, we didn't have a goal to show for our efforts, so there's a feeling of frustration with the end result. With one game left, we are still in the mix regarding league standings and qualification for postseason play. Now we just need to go down to Charleston Southern next weekend and earn our way in."

UP NEXT:

Longwood has one final match remaining this season when the team heads to Charleston Southern on Saturday, October 26. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
