FARMVILLE, Va. – Talk about timely. Longwood women's soccer put together one of its best 90-minute segments of the season in a 2-0 win at Charleston Southern to close out the regular season.

Karleigh Minson gave the Lancers (4-9-5, 3-2-3 Big South) an early lead, and
Brooke Bonner banged home a goal of her own after halftime. Meanwhile, the Lancer back line of
Sydney Robertson,
Berni Wayland,
Amanda Arnone and
Emma Jones, along with goalkeeper
Sara Curtis, smothered CSU (5-6-3, 2-3-1 Big South) on the other end.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood dominated the match from the back. The Lancers gave up one total shot to Charleston Southern, who boasted the second-best scoring offense in goals per game in coming in.

Robertson, Wayland, Arnone, Jones and Curtis repeatedly swept aside any chances, with the lone shot on the day coming in the first three minutes.

Shortly thereafter, the Lancers banged home a goal.
Karleigh Minson rifled in her second goal of the season off a feed from
Claire Schultz in the eighth minute.

While the defense continued to suck all the life out of CSU's offense, the Lancers extended the lead early in the second half.
Brooke Bonner, in her first match back from an injury, effectively sealed the game in the 60
th minute with her first collegiate goal.

With the shutout, Longwood's fourth straight, the Lancers haven't surrendered a goal in the past 373:43 minutes.

The win was Longwood's first road victory of the season, and it guarantees a first round home playoff match for the Lancers.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Well, it took us the whole season, but we finally earned our first win on the road," said Longwood Head Coach
Todd Dyer. "Defense always travels well, and
Sara Curtis led the way in goal with our back four holding a strong line in front of her. Karleigh made a really instinctive play and finish to give us the lead, and then Brooke's goal in her return was icing on the cake. Everyone really did their part in a hard-fought win to close out the regular season."
