HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lancers earned a second straight shutout behind a fiercely competitive match that saw both sides create great chances while each defense came up with clutch stops.

Shots were almost even, with Radford firing off 10 to Longwood's seven, but scoring chances were practically identical.

Peyton Curney and Claire Schultz paced Longwood's offense with two shots apiece, with both players working well together to create dangerous chances.

Radford nearly struck first within the opening five minutes when Eileen Albers hit the post, and the Highlanders had the first four shots of the match.

Longwood found its footing though, and the Lancers nearly seized the lead on Peyton Curney volley in the 19th minute, but the Radford defense saved it off the line.

From that point on, the two sides traded blows, and the two defenses bent but never broke.

Sara Curtis made five saves in goal for the Lancers to earn her second shutout of the season.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"That was a mature, solid performance tonight," said Longwood Head Coach Todd Dyer. "To earn a shutout and point on the road against the reigning champ is a positive step for us. Now we need to build on that by staying strong defensively, keeping the ball, and creating and finishing our chances. Saturday at home is the next opportunity to do that."

UP NEXT:
