Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lancers Blitz Regent, 103-52, Shooting 60 Percent

Longwood posts most points since 2015 as all 12 players score

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood women's basketball team scored its most points in nine seasons in a 103-52 victory over Regent at the Joan Perry Brock Center on Saturday.

The Lancers placed four players in double figures, led by senior Janay Turner with a game- and career-high 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting, while freshman forward Otaifo Esenabhalu collected Longwood's second double-double of the season with her own career-high 16 points, adding a career-best-tying 15 rebounds.

Longwood (5-15), which played the Virginia Beach-based school when its originally scheduled game with Mid-Atlantic Christian was cancelled, posted its most points since a 100-57 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Dec. 12, 2015. Longwood blistered the nets with a season-best 60.3 percent from the field, connecting on 44 shots in 73 attempts overall. LU shot 64.3 percent (27-for-42) from the floor in the first half alone, running out to a 64-23 advantage at halftime.

The Lancers saw all 12 active players score points while setting season highs for steals (20), assists (27) and rebounds (52).

"I'm really happy that we were able to get a win at home," said Longwood head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery. "I really loved the way we shared the ball today. It's awesome to see when you look at the stat sheet and you see that every player had a scoring opportunity and [was] able to get the ball in the basket."

Junior Kiki McInytre finished with 15 points, seven assists and five steals, while redshirt senior Adriana Shipp-Davis scored 14 points with three assists and three steals.

"Part of our emphasis of the day was not just looking to score in transition," Lang-Montgomery said of her team, which scored a season-best 27 fastbreak points. "I think we did that quite a bit in the second quarter, but we really wanted to work on our halfcourt execution, and I thought we did a great job of that."

Longwood dominated inside scoring 54 points in the paint and scored 22 points off 18 offensive boards. LU also turned 23 Regent turnovers into 36 points.

"As I look at the stat sheet, I see some big number jumping out. I see Janay had a great night offensively for us, Otaifo a double-double, that's huge – 16 points, 15 rebounds for her with 100 percent from the floor, it looks like. Kiki also had a really impressive day for us, but it was just a great day to get everybody involved and definitely love the outcome."

The Lancers got 40 points from their reserves, another season high. Freshman Amor Harris scored eight points in 12 minutes and Bailey Williams chipped in seven in 24 minutes off the bench.

Longwood limited Regent (4-13) just 15 made baskets and less than 28 percent from the field, also season bests for the Lancers.

Kali Murrell paced the Royals with 12 points.

Longwood next hosts High Point Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"We've got to turn the page pretty quickly and start our preparations for a very good High Point team that's coming in Wednesday night." Lang-Montgomery said. "I don't think we've played our best basketball yet and so we just want to keep getting better and look to be the best versions of ourselves Wednesday night."
