Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Fresh off their conference opener on Friday night at Miami (Ohio), the Lancers took the field less than 24 hours later.
Â
Much like the matchup against Miami, the Lancer defense was under duress but held firm early despite heavy pressure. McLaughlin was solid in goal for the Lancers, and the defense added a defensive save as well.
Â
However, Brown earned a penalty stroke, and Govan put it home early in the second quarter. Jodi Porto added one in the third to give Brown a cushion and fend off Longwood's comeback attempt.
Â
The Lancers had chances and applied heavy pressure in the second quarter. Longwood outcornered Brown 7-4 on the afternoon, with four corners coming in the second quarter alone.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"It was a tough weekend with back-to-back days of competitive hockey for us," said Longwood Head Coach
Miranda Rigg. "Things didn't go our way today, but it wasn't due to a lack of heart and fight."
Â
"Things are coming together, and it's just about being consistent and rewarding ourselves now in those final pieces," Rigg added.
