HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood used a strong possession came and crisp connections to stay firmly in charge for much of the match. The Lancers outshot Queens 18-8 on the day.

In the first quarter,
Madison Wiley put Longwood on the board with her first goal of the season.
Luna Prieri found her in front of the cage with a centering pass, and Wiley pushed it home for a 1-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, Obeirne tipped home her first goal of the season.
Kinsey Waddell one-touched a pass from
Isis Vrolijks forward, and Obeirne got a piece of it to beat the goalkeeper.

Queens cut the lead to 2-1 early in the third quarter when Karlee Alt made a long run and carried the ball forward. She beat a pair of defenders and slipped the ball home for her first goal of the season.

However,
Luna Prieri had the answer less than two minutes later. The dynamic freshman powered home a reverse to the far post to re-establish a two goal Lancer lead.

Kate Frey added her first goal of the season late in the match, and Obeirne capped it with her second goal on a deflection with less than 30 seconds to play.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"It was a great team win today," said Longwood Head Coach
Miranda Rigg. "The goal was to start off strong and play team hockey, and they showed that through their passing and poise over the ball. It was also really nice to see multiple people score."
