BLACKSBURG, Va. – After beginning Big South conference play 4-1, Longwood softball traveled west for an in-state challenge against the No.
13/
17 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. The Lancers battled, but ultimately dropped both contests 10-2 and 11-1.
Er'ron Burton started game one for Longwood, with
Reggie Kanagawa entering in her relief.
Maggie Chapin and
Leigha Hill threw for the Lancers in game two of today's doubleheader.
A potent offensive attack for the Hokies helped propel them to two double-digit victories, both ending in the fifth inning.
Maryanna Guy had a great day at the plate for the Lancers, knocking a solo home-run to left field in each game. The Brandon, Mississippi product has now hit three homers on the season, including the two she amassed today on her birthday.
In addition, several other Lancers recorded hits during today's action, including two from
Korynna Anderson and
Kayley DeVivi and one hit each for
Rileigh De Weese and
Kate Westmiller. For the freshman Westmiller, it was the first collegiate hit of her career.
Longwood returns to action this weekend in Boiling Springs, N.C. for another Big South conference series against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. First pitch in game one is set for 4 p.m., with game two taking place 30 minutes after the first. Game three will be played at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
