CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sam Massey put together a strong start against Longwood baseball on Saturday afternoon, and Charleston Southern took down the Lancers (16-25, 5-12 Big South) 5-0 to take the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Massey excelled for CSU (19-19, 11-6 Big South) and pitched into the seventh inning. He limited Longwood to two hits and a walk while striking out eight.
The Lancers finally had success in the seventh and had the tying run on deck, but Daniel Padysak came on in relief and tossed the final 2.1 innings to earn the save for CSU.
Ryan Miller was solid for Longwood on the mound, but he took the loss. He gave up four runs, only three earned, on eight hits and three walks in six innings.
Miller was able to escape major trouble, but Charleston Southern managed to scrape across a run in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings for a 4-0 lead.
The Lancers finally put runners on late in the contest, but it was too late as Massey and then Padysak closed the door.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Another tough one today," said Longwood Head Coach
Chad Oxendine. "We have to continue to believe in each other and continue to execute at a high level. When we do those things, it puts us in a great spot to compete right where we want to be."
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Ethan Barnes reached base safely twice with one base hit and one walk.
Barnes also stole a base.
Kevin Warunek pitched the final two innings. He struck out one while giving up a walk and two hits that led to one run.
