BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Longwood lacrosse battled, but Campbell protected its home turf on senior day in Buies Creek. The Camels (10-4, 6-0 Big South) took out the Lancers (3-10, 1-5 Big South) 18-10 behind four goals from Ally Heath and three goals apiece from Kyla Azzato and Rasa Welsh.
Lauren Cerretani and
Kendra DeFilippo each scored a pair of goals to lead Longwood.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lancer defense was solid to open the game, holding Campbell to four first-quarter goals, and DeFelippo put Longwood on the board with a goal in the waning seconds of the quarter.
Â
However, the Camel defense managed to shut down the Lancers in the same fashion through the first 26 minutes of game time. The Camels forced Longwood into 26 turnovers in the contest.

Longwood finally found some purchase in the game after a goal from
Lily Stohlman, and Longwood scored three goals in the final three minutes of the half to cut the Campbell lead to seven at the break. DeFilippo added her second goal of the game, and fellow freshman
Lexi Hamilton added a goal and an assist.

After halftime, Cerretani had a pair of goals in the third quarter as Longwood made a run back into the game. She sandwiched her goals around an
Emily Cate Smith goal, and Longwood cut the lead to to 14-8 with 10:10 left in the third quarter.

Both sides saw their chanced dry up from that point on though. The Lancer defense only surrendered four goals in the final 24 minutes of action, and the team forced Campbell into 20 turnovers.

However, the Camels held the Lancers to two goals in that same timeframe to preserve the win.

Eight players scored for the Lancers in the game.

DeFilippo had a career high three points. The freshman tied a career high with two goals and added an assist to boot.

Cerretani had her seventh multi-goal game of the season.
Â
The senior also led Longwood with five draw controls as the Lancers outdrew the Camels 17-14.

Amelia Carlile made 11 saves after coming on in goal for the Lancers.

Longwood returns home to host Presbyterian on Saturday, April 22. It is senior day at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field. The game is scheduled to start at noon, and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
