HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood men's tennis (6-13) started off the day with a bang, defeating Howard (3-10) in all three doubles matches to claim the day's opening point. Guillermo Cagigas then opened singles play with a dramatic third set victory over Howard's Justin Cadeau, and from there it was all Lancers.

Timéo Puech and Ernest Rocabert followed suit with singles wins at No. 2 and No. 3, sealing Longwood's first dual meet victory since March 9th. In addition, Alejandro Uribe, Luis Reis, and Lukas Krause completed the sweep, winning their singles matches to ensure the 7-0 win.

On the other hand, Longwood women's tennis (7-14) wouldn't have an easy of a ride as the men. Although the women won the opening doubles point over Howard (5-10), it was only due to the Bison forfeiting the match at No. 3. Nonetheless, the Lancers took a 1-0 advantage headed into singles.

The Bison responded in turn with an opening singles win at No. 1, but Longwood regained the lead thanks to wins at No. 2 and No. 3 from Maria Saez and Karina Rizvanova. Sophia Marchetta fell at No. 4, leading to a pivotal No. 5 singles match.

Wiktoria Czerny came up clutch for the Lancers, earning a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory at No. 5 to solidify Longwood's win. The win marked the first for the Lancer women since March 16th.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"It was great to see our seniors perform so well today and get the wins against solid Howard squads," said Longwood Director of Tennis Adam Jackson. "The men took care of business on all courts and the women pulled out some tough battles to get the win."

UP NEXT:

Longwood men's tennis travels to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday for their final dual of the season while the women host Presbyterian on Thursday in their final dual of the year. The matches begin at 1 p.m. and 12 p.m. respectively.
