HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Longwood men's tennis (6-13) started off the day with a bang, defeating Howard (3-10) in all three doubles matches to claim the day's opening point.
Guillermo Cagigas then opened singles play with a dramatic third set victory over Howard's Justin Cadeau, and from there it was all Lancers.
Â
Timéo Puech and
Ernest Rocabert followed suit with singles wins at No. 2 and No. 3, sealing Longwood's first dual meet victory since March 9
th. In addition,
Alejandro Uribe,
Luis Reis, and
Lukas Krause completed the sweep, winning their singles matches to ensure the 7-0 win.
Â
On the other hand, Longwood women's tennis (7-14) wouldn't have an easy of a ride as the men. Although the women won the opening doubles point over Howard (5-10), it was only due to the Bison forfeiting the match at No. 3. Nonetheless, the Lancers took a 1-0 advantage headed into singles.
Â
The Bison responded in turn with an opening singles win at No. 1, but Longwood regained the lead thanks to wins at No. 2 and No. 3 from
Maria Saez and
Karina Rizvanova.
Sophia Marchetta fell at No. 4, leading to a pivotal No. 5 singles match.
Â
Wiktoria Czerny came up clutch for the Lancers, earning a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory at No. 5 to solidify Longwood's win. The win marked the first for the Lancer women since March 16
th.

Â
